HIV Prevention Specialist, MSM Emphasis.
AVOL is a 501(c)(3) community-based organization (CBO) serving 72 counties in central, eastern, and southeastern Kentucky.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
HIV PREVENTION SPECIALIST (MSM EMPHASIS)
Deliver HIV prevention interventions and outreach to the counties of the Eastern Region as described by the State HIV Prevention Coordinators with an emphasis on Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM).
Deliver ‘Many Men, Many Voices’ Data-Based Evidence Intervention (DEBI) to African-American MSM.
Conduct street outreach with high-risk MSM.
Conduct other HIV prevention outreach activities as prescribed by the State HIV Coordinator and by AVOL (AIDS Volunteers, Inc.).
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Full-time, exempt position. Frequent travel required. Weekend and evening hours as required.
Experience with HIV/AIDS prevention. An understanding of the specific barriers facing populations at highest risk for HIV/AIDS.
Background in behavioral science, psychology, public health, or social service. BA/BS degree or higher preferred.
Understanding of statistical data collection and tracking as related to HIV prevention.
Experience implementing policies, procedures, and best practices for effective HIV prevention.
Ability to work comfortably and professionally in an environment dealing explicitly and graphically with sex and high-risk behaviors including drug use.
Ability to work comfortably and professionally with the gay/bi male community as well as with men who have sex with men who do not identify as gay/bi.
Ability to work comfortably and professionally with clients representing diverse races, ethnicities, ages, gender identification, sexual orientation, beliefs, politics, socio-economic classes, levels of education, mental health, and serostatuses.
Ability to clearly define and maintain professional boundaries when serving target populations.
Cultural competency for working with gay, rural, African-American, and/or Latino communities.
Bilingual, Spanish fluency preferred.
Collaborative, cooperative, and enthusiastic attitude expected
Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle.
Background check and mandatory training required.
Supervision: Reports to the Prevention Program Director and the Executive Director. All AVOL employees serve at the pleasure of the Board of Directors.
