• Student or Senior Registration (includes awards dinner) - $100 Students are those who are full or part-time students in high school, college, or graduate school. A senior is someone 65 years old or older. $150 after November 23, 2009.

• One-day Registration (does not include awards dinner) - $100.  $150 after November 23, 2009

For the first time the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty is hosting the annual meeting of the national group, the NCADP (the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty).  Click here to view a video of Sr. Helen Prejean inviting us all to Louisville.  Click here for information on travel (driving directions, airport etc.) and to make reservations at the Seelbach.

This year’s theme, "Training for the Long Run -- Building Bridges to Wider Audiences," focuses on broadening our base of support for ending capital punishment. The conference will explore these ideas with internationally renowned keynote speakers including:

• Conference Keynote by Sister Helen Prejean, Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, celebrated author and spiritual advisor;

• Building Bridges with Conservatives and Religious Communities plenary with Barry W. Lynn, Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and other esteemed guests;

• Race and the Death Penalty plenary with Dr. Charles J. Ogletree, Jr. (invited) and the staff of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice at Harvard Law School;

• Restorative Justice plenary with Professor Howard Zehr, Center for Justice & Peacebuilding, Eastern Mennonite University; and

• Praise and Healing Ceremony / Interfaith Prayer Service with the Interfaith Paths to Peace Center, and other leaders.

10/24 PeaceMeal Gardens: Pumpkin Festival

Pumpkin Festival

This event is free and the public is cordially welcome.

DETAILS:

This pumpkin festival is intended as a fun, end-of-season garden event.  Children and a Children and adults are welcome to paint a pumpkin from the patch, eat s’mores heated over a bonfire, learn about natural dyes, swap seed, and just enjoy getting being out in the country on an autumn day.  Gourds and pumpkins will be for sale.

The concept of the BCTC PeaceMeal Gardens is to encourage the community and BCTC students to develop healthy associations with local food production and become concretely involved in the process. The many participants in this large, multi-faceted garden include allotment gardeners, Food Not Bombs, the Lexington Free Store, Catholic Action Center, and the BCTC Market Garden.

Directions: turn left onto Opportunity Way from Leestown Rd—heading west—and turn right onto Parking Lot A.  Across the parking lot you will meet a little gravel road; stay on it for about 100 yards. When you see the clearing, the garden is on the right.

DETAILS:

The second annual resource fair will provide information, referrals, and resource materials related to issues facing the homeless, marginally housed and veteran populations. These issues include housing, shelter, feeding programs, medical and mental health services.

The Central KY Council for Peace & Justice is providing lunch for providers and exhibitors.  NOTE: Volunteers are needed 1 - 3 p.m.
