WHERE:

All are welcome to join us.
DETAILS:
Since the first week of November 2001 a small group of central Kentuckians has maintained a weekly prayer vigil in downtown Lexington. As of 11/06/09 we have been on the corner for 8 years, 416 consecutive Thursdays. We invite you to join us.
For the first 15 minutes we stand on the corner with our signs. We have a large banner that reads "Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Peace" and several other signs. For example, "Mourn the dead, Heal the Wounded, End the War" and "Support our troops, End the War."
During the second 15 minutes, we gather in a circle. We usually begin by singing a hymn or folk song. We then go around the circle with each person reading (if they choose) a few line of a poem, essay, or quotations. The readings are chosen so that persons of all faiths will be comfortable with them. After the readings, we have a few minutes of silent prayer. After a few minutes of silent prayer, several from the group may add vocal prayers. We then sing another song. This song has often been Sibelius's "A Song of Peace" (Finlandia). We conclude with a group hug and mutual wishes of "shalom."
